The Department of Ballet provides professional ballet training in classical and contemporary dance within a university environment enriched by many
academic and artistic opportunities. The ballet faculty includes artists who have been soloists, principal dancers, and teachers with some of the world's
major ballet companies. The IU Ballet Theater offers three performances a year, which include classical and contemporary works, as well as new works
choreographed by IU faculty. Guest teachers, choreographers, and artists include many major figures in the field of ballet, such as Julie Kent, Patricia
McBride, Natalie Weir, and Patrick Bissell.
Ballet facilities include three spacious studios with state-of-the-art resilient floors in the Musical Arts Center. Performances are presented on the
stage of the Musical Arts Center, which is modeled after the Metropolitan Opera House and includes the largest university performance stage in North
America. Graduates of the program enjoy success as performers, choreographers, teachers, critics, administrators, and advocates for the arts.
