A select number of students pursue graduate degrees in wind conducting each year at the IU School of Music, studying with faculty who are premier
teachers/conductors in the field. Students take seminars in wind history and literature, and have regular private lessons/tutorials in wind conducting
with faculty in the Department of Bands/Wind Conducting. Each graduate student in wind conducting has opportunities to conduct each of the three major
ensembles—Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, or Concert Band—yearly. In addition, students serve on the staff of the Marching Hundred. They
also rotate as directors of the All-Campus Band. The Wind Ensemble is considered one of the top collegiate wind bands in the world and has performed
at all of the major conventions and conferences in the United States as well as in Japan. All of the IU School of Music wind bands perform literature
of the highest quality at the highest level of proficiency. Graduates of the program generally become band conductors at colleges, universities, or
public or private schools.
