The Department of Jazz Studies in the IU Jacobs School of Music is consistently ranked in the top five jazz programs of its kind. The comprehensive program
offers classes in performance, composition/arranging, pedagogy, and styles and analysis, as well as providing opportunities to play in
large and small ensembles. Under the guidance of the department's widely renowned faculty of teacher-performers, students study the traditional jazz
techniques and also pursue new and contemporary styles. While offering a broad range of academic and performance experiences related to jazz, the
department is committed to helping each student develop personally and professionally in preparation for a career in music.

Bachelor of Music and

Performance Opportunities
- Four large jazz ensembles (constituted by qualitative auditions)
- Numerous small jazz ensembles
