COMPOSITION

The Molinari Quartet's Fourth International Competition for Composition for String Quartet. Composers are invited to submit an original work for string quartet. The best compositions will be played in concert during the spring of 2010. Rules for Eligibility: Candidates must for 40 years old or less as of April 1st 2009, the due date for registration. The work must not exceed  20 minutes. Only works for string quartet that have neither been performed or published as of April 1st 2009 shall be accepted.   Due date for registration and receiving scores: April 1 st 2009. Grawemeyer Award for Music Composition 2010: each entry must be nominated by a professional music organization or individual.  A composer may not submit his/her own work.  Award granted for a work premiered between Jan 1, 2004-Dec 31, 2008.  Entry forms may be downloaded at:  www.grawemeyer.org.  Submissions and requests for entry forms/info should be sent to:  Grawemeyer Music Award Committee, School of Music, University of Louisville, Louisville, KY  40292.  Nominations/entries due by January 12, 2009.

Bay State Concerto Competition, March 7-8, 2009. The competition is open to pianists and any orchestral instrumentalists between the ages of 18 and 30 (on the day of the competition).  All applications must be received by February 21, 2009. 37th Annual New York Debut Award Auditions: open to classically trained instrumentalists, chamber ensembles, and singers who have not given a solo New York debut or not received a New York review for a solo recital performance.  No age limit.  Auditions will be held at International House, New York City, from March21-29, 2009 (prelims, semis and finals).  For application form, send a self-addressed stamped business-sized envelope to:  Artists International, attn:  Music Division, 521 Fifth Ave, Suite 1700, New York, NY 10017. Completed entry forms due by Jan. 21, 2009.  Tel: 212-292-4257.  No web site available.

VOICE

If you are university-aged, there is now a competition just for you: Classical Singer's University Vocal Competition.  Winners will receive scholarships to summer programs and graduate schools. In addition, all finalists will sing at the Final Round Concert before people who make acceptance decisions for graduate programs. All participants will have an opportunity to keep audition and competition skills fresh, gain exposure before educators and professional singers, and meet more singers their age from across the country.  Held May 29-31, 2009 in Chicago as part of the annual Classical Singer Convention.  A limited number of singers can participate. 21st International Singing Competition of Clermont-Ferrand (France): 11 to 13 February 2009.  At least 10 artists will be engaged in several productions in Clermont-Ferrand for 2010 and 2011 but also in other towns of Auvergne region and at La Chaise-Dieu Festival.  Works auditioned: Cosi fan tutte,  La Cambiale di matrimonio, Didone abbandonata, Messiah, La Petite Messe Solennelle, Rossini Recital (for mezzo-soprano), piano Jeff Cohen Donizetti – Bellini Recital (for soprano or tenor), piano Jeff Cohen.
