HEARING INFORMATION—BY DEPARTMENT**

Student Spotlight Ji-Hye Chang Seoul, South Korea Ji-Hye Chang begged her parents for a piano at age five when she first heard Beethoven’s “Für Elise.” Today she studies piano with IU Professor Edward Auer. Chang has enjoyed wide acclaim for her performances throughout Korea and the United States. She recently performed a concerto written for her with the IU New Music Ensemble.

PERCUSSION: Hearings can be scheduled through your studio professor or by the chair of the department two weeks prior to their recital.

WOODWINDS: Contact Janelle Ott at jaott@indiana.edu no less than 4 weeks before your recital. You must be prepared to play a hearing no less than 2 weeks before your recital. Hearings are held on Wednesdays in Recital Hall beginning at 1pm. All musicians on the program must be present at the hearing including chamber groups and small orchestras etc.

PIANO: Hearings are scheduled by signing up on a sign up sheet on E. Brancarts board (MU212). Hearings are only on Mondays every other week (except toward the end of the semester when it is weekly) at 5.30pm in Recital Hall. Students have to sign up at the latest, the Thursday before their Monday hearing. The order of playing is the order of signing up.

STRINGS: Be ready to give your hearing anywhere from 5-14 days before your recital. The chair of the department schedules hearings, then emails the string faculty and student body, updating the schedule each week. Hearings are on Tuesdays and Thursdays 4.30-6.30pm. A hard copy of this schedule will always be posted next to MA157.

HARP: Contact Prof. McDonald and Prof. Szmyt to schedule a time that works for all of you 2 weeks before your recital. Hearings take place in MA003, and usually they like to hear most of your recital program.

COMPOSITION: No Hearings.

VOICE: As soon as you have scheduled the date of your recital, pick up a Hearing Request Form from the folder outside the door of the Voice Department Office MU105. Fill it in, have your teacher sign it, and turn it in to the Voice Department Office as soon as possible. Hearings are held every Wednesday at 4:35 in Recital Hall. Choose the date that is the Wednesday 10 days to two weeks before (not the week of) your recital. Singers are usually scheduled in order of degree, BSOF, BM, MM, and PD. When you turn in your form, be sure to indicate if you or your pianist has a scheduling conflict (rehearsal, etc.) which means that you would need to sing early or late.
