Application Procedures
The undergraduate priority deadline of November 1 has passed. The final deadline for undergraduate applications for Fall 2012 admission is December 1, 2011. After this date, applications will continue to be accepted depending on space availability. Please contact our office with any questions at (812) 855-7998, or via email at musicadm@indiana.edu.
Please note that we are no longer accepting applications for Recording Arts (BS, AS), Musicology (MA, PhD), and Piano (DM) for Fall 2012 admission.
Welcome! We are pleased to know of your interest in applying to the Jacobs School of Music.
All applicants to the Jacobs School must be considered for admission by both Indiana University and the Jacobs School of Music, apply by the deadlines established, submit all required supplementary information, and complete an audition or interview depending on your program. Please note that some programs require pre-screening audition recordings and/or other materials.
The details of the application procedure differ slightly depending on what type of applicant you are (undergraduate, transfer, graduate, international, visiting student, or internal applicant). Please select the link below that applies to you and read everything very carefully.
If you should need assistance or have any questions, please always feel free to contact the Office of Music Admissions and Financial Aid at (812) 855-7998, or via email at:musicadm [at] indiana [dot] edu
New for 2011-2012
Beginning this year, all undergraduate applicants will complete a single application that will serve as both your application for Indiana University and the Jacobs School of Music. Graduate applicants will still need to complete both a University Graduate School Application followed by the specific Jacobs School of Music application.
Also beginning this year, Jacobs School of Music freshman applicants will not be considered for the IU Automatic Scholarships administered by the IU Office of Scholarships. However, this funding has not gone away. Rather, the Jacobs School of Music will administer these scholarships, taking into consideration the combination of academic achievement and talent as it is demonstrated in the audition. This is a positive change that will enable music applicants to be considered for scholarship on the basis of their SAT/ACT, GPA, and musical talent, rather than on SAT/ACT and GPA alone. Jacobs School of Music applicants may still apply for IU Scholarship opportunities via the Selective Scholarship Application, information for which can be found on the IU Office of Scholarships website.
