Graduate Internal Applicants

This application is designed for current graduate music students who wish to apply to a new graduate music degree program. For example: MM-DM or AD or PD, MME-DME or PhD, PD-AD or MM or DM, AD-PD or MM or DM

Exception: all applicants to the following programs must follow the same procedures as external applicants:

          MM and DM Choral Conducting

       MA and PhD Musicology

         MM and PhD Music Theory

 

Step 1

Complete the Internal Graduate Application Form (PDF). The application and all required materials must be received by the Office of Music Admissions and Financial Aid by December 1, 2009 for Fall 2010 admission consideration.

Step 2

Compose a short paragraph explaining why you are applying to a new program in the Jacobs School of Music

Step 3

Arrange for a written letter of support from your major teacher or advisor to be sent to the Jacobs School of Music Office of Admissions and Financial Aid. This can also be emailed to musicadm@indiana.edu.

Step 4

Arrange for a written letter of support from your department chair to be sent to the Jacobs School of Music Office of Admissions and Financial Aid. This can also be emailed to musicadm@indiana.edu.

Step 5

Complete an audition/interview for the new program (you may use your jury hearing or recital as your audition/interview). In order to be considered for financial aid, your audition or jury hearing will need to occur by the final audition weekend, March 5/6, 2010.

Teacher Assignments

The Jacobs School of Music audition application gives you the opportunity to express your preference for individual faculty members. Every effort will be made to honor your request based on studio availability and general balance in individual studios. While we cannot guarantee placement with any of those faculty members for whom you indicate a preference, all incoming students will be placed with a faculty member for their applied music study.

TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language)

If your native language is not English, you are required to demonstrate your level of English proficiency by taking the TOEFL and submitting your scores. The minimum TOEFL result required for the BM and MM degree program are a paper-based score of 560, a computer-based minimum of 223, and an internet-based minimum of 84. The minimum TOEFL result for the DM degree program is a paper-based score of 600, a computer-based minimum of 250, and an internet-based minimum of 100. The minimum TOEFL result for the Performer/Artist Diploma is a paper-based score of 510, a computer-based minimum of 183, and an internet-based minimum of 65. There are no exceptions to these requirements and the TOEFL must be submitted by March 1, 2010 in order for an admission decision to be made.
