First Half (dance with orchestra) Rebel: Les Caracteres de la Danse Geminiani: La Folia Featuring the New York Baroque Dance Company and the IU Baroque Orchestra. Second Half: Rameau's one act opera/ballet "Pygmalion" “Pygmalion” will feature the New York Baroque Dance Company, tenor David Wood in the title role, sopranos Angelique Zuluaga (Amour), Priscilla Borges (la Statue), and Kathryn Aaron (Cephise), and a choir from the Early Music Institute. The dance pieces and the opera ballet will be fully costumed in historical 18th century style and all choreographies are modeled after 18th century works. Staging and realizations of the 18th century choreographies are by Catherine Turocy, artistic director of the NYBDC. Free and open to the public. The performance follows a two week residency by Catherine Turocy and the New York Baroque Dance Company. Ms. Turocy and her troupe are scheduled to give classes in baroque dance for the Early Music Institute, classes for the IU Ballet Department, classes in 18th century theater techniques and a class, open to the IU Jacobs School of Music, on tempi in Baroque dance music.
