Die Zauberflöte (The Magic Flute) New Production by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart on November 13, 14, 20, 21 at 8pm

IU NEWS ROOM
IU Opera Theater presents 'wild' new production of Mozart's 'Die Zauberflote' >>

Set in Egypt in a Mythical Time
The principles of good and evil are the centerpiece of this Mozart masterpiece, which premiered only months before his death in December 1791. Good is represented by the High Priest Sarastro and evil by the Queen of the Night. Two would-be-lovers, Pamina
and Tamino, must overcome a set of trials in order to be worthy of true love, encountering the birdcatcher Papageno along the way. Steeped in symbolism, this work is influenced by the principles of Freemasonry, which were very much in vogue
at the time and to which Mozart subscribed.

Sung in German with English dialogue and supertitles
