Minimum Grades Required For Master's Programs

Students in a master's degree program must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher to graduate.

Music History and Music Theory review courses (if necessary)

  • MUS-M 541 Music History Review for Graduate Students I: grade of C or higher
  • MUS-M 542 Music History Review for Graduate Students II: grade of C or higher
  • MUS-T 508 Written Music Theory Review for Graduate Students: minimum grade C, or B for High Pass degrees.
  • MUS-T 509 Sight-Singing Review for Graduate Students: minimum grade C
  • MUS-T 511 Aural Music Theory Review for Graduate Students: minimum grade D, or B for High Pass degrees, or C for musicology majors and wind conducting majors

Major

Each course in the major field must have a grade of B or higher to fulfill degree requirements.

Music History and Literature Requirement

Each course in this requirement must have a grade of C or higher to fulfill degree requirements.

Outside Area

Each course in an outside area or minor field must have a grade of C or higher to fulfill degree requirements. In addition, courses counting toward an outside area or minor field must have an average of at least B. Departments offering the outside area or minor may require a higher grade.

Tool Subjects

Students must earn a grade of C or higher in each course to fulfill degree requirements (some departments require a higher grade).

Language Proficiencies

Each grammar, diction, or reading course must have a grade of C or higher to fulfill degree requirements (some departments require a higher grade).
