Requirements for K702 (7 day) and K703 (24 hour) exams

 Rev. 8/06

K702 and K703 are to be completed during the first two semesters of enrollment.

To pass, the student must receive an average grade of B or higher.

Sequence

(1) The student tells the Music Graduate office (MU 011) that he or she is ready to do the K702 or K703 exam. The information the Music Graduate Office gathers is:
- Estimated date to start K702 or K703 (student needs to give at least 3 weeks notice). If the student wants to do the K702 or K703 exam in the summer, he or she needs to inform the Music Graduate Office by March 15.
- Requested major field Advisory Committee (including who will act as chair) – student submits Advisory Committee request form.

(2) The Music Graduate office sends a K702 and/or K703 exam request form to the Advisory Committee chair. The Advisory Committee chair returns the exam text (which should include the expected format of the final product) at least 2 weeks before the student expects to start the exam.

(3) The student picks up the exam in the Music Graduate Office. The student will be informed of the date and time the exam needs to be returned. Exams must start and end during regular office hours for the Music Graduate Office. (M-F, 9:00-12:00, 1:00-4:00)

(4) The student returns 4 copies of the project within the time limit to the Music Graduate Office, with at least one copy photo-copied double sided and either spiral or comb bound. The score should be neatly copied, with complete and correct information.

(5) The Music Graduate Office sends each committee member his own copy of the project (the chair receives the bound copy) along with a grade request form. The fourth copy is an office copy. Once all three copies are returned, the grades will be averaged and a final grade assigned (if there are problems with averaging the grades, the Director of Graduate Studies will be consulted).

(6) The student and Advisory Committee chairperson will receive an email informing them of the final grade. The Advisory Committee chairperson will be given the three committee member copies of the exam along with a request for him to go over the markings on the exam copies with the student.
