Requirements for the Minor in Composition, Doctor of Music Degree Entrance Courses (A) 12 hours of K810, private composition lessons (preferably divided 3-3-3-3), with concurrent registration in I500 (0), Composition Masterclass, for each semester of composition lessons. or (B) 9 hours of K810, private composition lessons (preferably divided 3-3-3), and 3
hours of K554 (3; Orchestration), at the recommendation of the composition
faculty; concurrent registration in I500 (0), Composition Masterclass, for each
semester of composition lessons or orchestration. Performances Public performance of three compositions (written while enrolled for K810), preferably on
student composition recitals. The pieces will be graded Pass/Fail by a committee of at least
three members of the composition faculty in attendance. Students should submit copies of the
relevant recital programs to the Graduate Office for their files.
Examination During the final semester of composition study, the student will be asked to compose:
(1) a vocal work to an assigned text in a 24-hour period,
and
(2) a short movement for chamber ensemble in a 7-day period.
Both pieces will be graded Pass/Fail by a committee of at least three members of the
composition faculty.
