Spring 2008 -
CALL FOR SCORES
Deadline: 12:00 Noon, Monday, March 17, 2008
IU Composers are encouraged to submit work(s) for Spring 2008 Orchestra
reading. Masters thesis and short works are preferred. Any selected master
thesis will receive one full hour of reading (actual 50 minutes rehearsal
time) when the time frame is permissible. Others will receive a rehearsal
time according to duration of works, but no more than 30 minutes. Please
contact P.Q. Phan for any further questions (pphan@indiana.edu).
Entries may be submitted to P.Q. Phan via the School of Music mailroom.
Dates of reading: April 14, 15, & 17 (from 4:00-6:00 PM, location to be
announced)
Available Instrumentation: 2.2.2.2/4.2.3.1/1.2/harp/strings.
Participated composers are responsible for providing instrumentalists exceeded the above instrumentation.
Submissions must guarantee available parts when selected. Submissions must
include:
. One full score
. Indicate the duration of the composition
. Two sample parts (flute 1 and violin 1)
. Contact information: email address
Selected composers must provide appropriate parts (one/each winds, harp, and percussion instruments, and 8/7/6/6/6 for strings) by 12:00 Noon, Friday,
March 28, 2008, directly, or left in the mailroom for P.Q. Phan.
Formats:
1. Legible, transposed or non-transposed full scores are accepted. Scores
must be double sided, with information on instrumentation and duration. No
single sided score(s) will be accepted. Scores must be bound. Loose binding
will help to turn pages easily. Full score size in 11X8.5 format is
discouraged (to small to read). Scores with proper size of measure numbers
plus rehearsal letters (or numbers) will be very helpful.
2. Page size for parts must not be smaller than 11x8.5and larger than 14x11
(both are in portrait format). Parts must be bound when required multi-page
setting. Tape binding (usually paper tape or cloth tape) is the only
acceptable format (no spiral binding, no stapled). Parts require reasonable
rest(s) for page turn. Parts must include related necessary elements such
as measure number (large enough to read), rehearsal letter or number, cue(s)
after a long rest, etc. Each page must have around 8 systems, which allows
space for noting rehearsal comments and easy reading. Do not use shared
parts among wind instruments. Parts must be delivered in score order (fl,
ob, cl, etc.)
