Instrumental Conducting

The Indiana University Jacobs School of Music offers a setting for a select number of exceptional conductors to pursue Masters and Doctoral degrees in conducting performance under the tutelage of Maestri David Effron, Thomas Baldner, and distinguished visiting and resident conductors.   An unparalleled university performance scene including 8 orchestras, a music theater with a season of 8 fully-staged operas, vibrant new and ancient music programs, artists in residence, and the faculty of the famed school of music all contribute to an environment where student conductors regularly aspire and prepare for success at the highest levels of the profession.

Former studio members regularly conduct many of the world’s great orchestras, and hold key positions with opera houses, orchestras, and ballet companies worldwide.  Members have also enjoyed notable success in academia, music theater, and international competitions.

The Jacobs School of Music is pleased to announce the second season of the Conductors' Orchestra. This ensemble serves the graduate conducting classes as a lab orchestra three days a week. It also serves as the orchestra for two choral conducting doctoral recitals each spring. View details here.>>
