Special ResourcesFocus Recordings are commercial recordings produced by the Early Music Institute. Students, faculty and outside artists have appeared on the Focus label. Publications of the Early Music Institute is a series of studies, historical method books, and editions in the Early Music field. The series is published by the Early Music Institute in cooperation with the Indiana University Press. Music: Scholarship and Performance is a series of books pertaining to the performance of Early Music edited by the director of the Institute and published by the Indiana University Press. The Thomas Binkley Archive of Early Music Recordings is a permanent repository of CD's, LP's, cassettes, tapes and 78's of early music, providing a chronology of modern performance practice in the area of historical music. The Archive holds over seven thousand recordings of early music. In time, the collection will be digitized, recorded and made available on computer under the auspices of the Variations Project of the Indiana University Music Library. Contributions to the Archive by private collectors, recording companies, early music ensembles and other interested parties are gratefully accepted. The Garton and Paras Instrument Collections consist of reconstructions of many early instruments and are available for student use. The Apel Collection housed in the Music Library is a substantial collection of reproductions of early prints and manuscripts, supplemented by an outstanding research collection of original sources on microfilm. The University Libraries are among the top twenty research libraries in the country, including among its many diverse units, the Indiana University Music Library and the Lilly Library of rare books and manuscripts. |
