Patrice Madura Ward-SteinmanProfessor of Music Patrice Madura Ward-Steinman is a Professor of Music (Music Education) at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. A specialist in choral music education, vocal jazz, and research, Patrice Madura came to I.U. in 2003 after serving as faculty member and department chair at the University of Southern California, and as faculty member and conductor of choral ensembles at the Oberlin College Conservatory of Music and Indiana University-Purdue University at Fort Wayne. She taught choral and general music to grades K-12 in California, and worked extensively as a pianist. Professor Madura has articles published in the Journal of Research in Music Education, Bulletin for the Council of Research in Music Education, International Journal of Music Education, Journal of Historical Research in Music Education, Philosophy of Music Education Review, Psychology of Music, and Jazz Research Paper Proceedings; and a chapter in Teaching Music in the Urban Classroom (2006). She is also the author of Getting Started with Vocal Improvisation, published by MENC, and she regularly presents workshops and research on vocal jazz improvisation at national and international music education conferences. Madura is currently the director of the Singing Hoosiers Vocal Jazz Ensemble and the faculty sponsor for the I.U. American Choral Director’s Association (ACDA) collegiate chapter.
