Professor Emeritus of Music Education

Dr. Schleuter received his undergraduate degree from South Dakota State University and graduate degrees from The University of Iowa. He taught instrumental and general music courses
and conducted instrumental groups in public schools, colleges, and universities. At Indiana University, he served as Chair of the Music Education Department and Coordinator of Undergraduate Studies in Music Education. He taught undergraduate instrumental music methods, student teacher seminar, various graduate music education courses, and managed the music student teacher training program. Prior to joining the faculty at Indiana University, he taught at Kent State University where he also served as Coordinator of Music Education. He served as Research Chair for the Indiana Music Educators Association for eight years and was a member of the editorial boards of the Journal of Research in Music Education and the Bulletin of the Council for Research in Music Education. Dr. Schleuter has served as workshop clinician, adjudicator, and guest conductor in a number of states and Canada. He is author of numerous published articles and the books, A Sound Approach to Teaching Instrumentalists, Schirmer Books, and Saxophone Recital Music: A Discography, Greenwood Press.
