The IU percussion department presented Professor Houghton with his own (limited edition) commemorative plate! Prof. Houghton begins his tenure as President of the Percussive Arts Society this January. Congratulations Steve!

The IU percussion department was treated to an informative and "hands on" marching percussion masterclass on October 1st that culminated with a special performance featuring the IU Marching Hundred Drumline.
Michael Spiro joins the IU Jacobs School of Music as Visiting Assistant Professor of Percussion
Michael Spiro is an internationally recognized world percussionist, recording artist, and educator known specifically for his work in the Latin Music field. He has performed on thousands of records, co-produced and played on several instructional videos, and produced seminal recordings in the Latin Music genre.
He is a frequent visiting artist at universities worldwide. In addition to the position he held in the Jazz Department at the University of California, Berkeley, Spiro has taught at numerous colleges throughout North America and Europe, and continues to be a presenter at national and statewide conventions of the Percussive Arts Society and the International Association of Jazz Educators.

Kevin Bobo, Steve Houghton, Michael Spiro, and John Tafoya perform for the IU percussion majors. This is an annual event that "kicks off" the school year.

 Congratulations to Kyle Acuncius!
IU Jacobs School of Music Associate Instructor and first year MM student, Kyle Acuncius was recently invited to participate in the DCINY International Honors Wind Symphony at Lincoln Center's Avery Fisher Hall!
The concert will take place on May 23, 2009.
Congratulations to David Neville!
Winner of the Olympic Bronze medal in the 400-meter track final and a Gold medalist in the 1600-meter relay, David Neville graduated in 2007 from the IU Jacobs School of Music's percussion department with a Bachelors degree in Music Education.
 Congrats to Brian Gardiner!
Brian Gardiner (DM candidate) has been offered a section percussion position in the
Vancouver (WA) Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Music director and
conductor Salvador Brotons.
He has also accepted the position of Adjunct Music Professor at
Portland Community College's Rock Creek Campus in Portland, Oregon, where he
will be teaching written and aural music theory classes.
