Students and faculty in the music theory department participate in a supportive community rich in activity:

Colloquium Series -- featuring bi-weekly research presentations and professional-development seminars by guest lecturers, faculty, and students

Graduate Theory Association -- our student-professional organization

• GTA Symposium -- a biennial conference of research
• Indiana Theory Review -- a professional journal published by the GTA

Workshop on Teaching High School Music Theory -- a College Board-endorsed professional development summer institute for high school music theory teachers, taught by Prof. Eric Isaacson

We have hosted annual meetings of the Society for Music Theory (1986) and Music Theory Midwest (1994, 2003).
