Bio

Prof. Isaacson is Director of Graduate Studies at the IU Jacobs School of Music. He is also coordinator of the Music Information Technology graduate minor program, holds an adjunct appointment in the School of Informatics, is a core faculty member in IU's Cognitive Science Program, and formerly chaired the music theory department. He has published articles and book reviews in Journal of Music Theory, Music Theory Online, Indiana Theory Review, and Advances in Computers. He has special interests in the pre-serial music of the Second Viennese School, computer applications in music analysis and music pedagogy, and visualization in music. He is former editor of Music Theory Online, has chaired the development committee for the Advanced Placement examination in Music Theory, and regularly gives workshops and summer institutes for AP Music Theory teachers. He was the recipient of two-year grant from the Fund for the Improvement of Post-Secondary Education (U.S. Department of Education) to develop Music Fundamentals Online, a web-based course in music fundamentals, and was Co-Principal Investigator for the NSF-funded Variations2: The IU Digital Music Library project. He is also music director and conductor of the Southern Indiana Wind Ensemble. Professor Isaacson taught previously at Ithaca College.
