Guitar

Immerse yourself in the world of guitar

Whether you’re hoping to spend your career playing the guitar or sharing your expertise with others, we have a program that will help you achieve your goals.

We offer academic programs at every level, from bachelor’s to doctoral. No matter what degree you choose to pursue, you’ll study with faculty dedicated to helping you achieve your personal best, learn with a small group of peers who share your passion in your studio, and perform on the stages of some of the best facilities available at the college level.

Guitar for non-majors

Whether you’ve been playing the guitar for years, or you’ve never picked up a guitar before, we offer classes to help you nurture your passion.

  • Basic and Intermediate Guitar Skills and Styles—This two-class series teaches you popular guitar styles and techniques in a lecture setting and can be taken to earn General Ed credit.
  • Beginning through Advanced Guitar Class—This series of classes teaches you how to play the guitar and how to read music.
  • Individual Guitar Lessons—Meet one-on-one with an instructor to learn to play the guitar at your own pace.
  • All-Campus Guitar Ensemble—Join the IU guitar community, and play with others who share your love of the guitar in this ensemble, open to guitar players of all levels.
