The Indiana University Jacobs School of Music community mourns the death of faculty composer David Ward-Steinman, who had been an adjunct professor in both composition and music in general studies since 2004. He was also an active pianist, performer and improviser.

Lissa May appointed director of undergraduate studies at IU Jacobs School of Music

Following 13 years on the Music Education Department faculty at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, Professor Lissa May has been appointed director of undergraduate studies. As such, she will be responsible for implementing all undergraduate degree programs of the Jacobs School of Music. She will work with current director Gary Potter starting this summer and begin full-time duties in January 2013.

Indiana University Jacobs School of Music alumna Nicole Pollard was crowned Miss Indiana on June 27. She captured the contest's runner-up title the previous two years after Jacobs alumna soprano Betsy Uschkrat held the crown in 2006.

Brenda Brenner Appointed to lead String Music Education Initiative

Addressing a widely acknowledged need for qualified string music educators in public schools, the IU Jacobs School of Music announces the appointment of violinist Brenda Brenner. The new full-time tenure-track position takes advantage of the Jacobs School's excellent string performance program, a nationally recognized pre-college string program, and one of the country's leading music education departments.
