Print Style Guide
Marks & Signatures Usage Guidelines
Every Jacobs School of Music publication (print and Web) must include a signature (either Jacobs School or Indiana University).
Please follow these guidelines for proper usage when setting up your artwork.
Examples of Usage

When the Jacobs type treatment is set at a large size or is in close proximity to the signature, either the Jacobs Secondary or the Indiana University signature should be used.

Print ad using the Jacobs type treatment and the Jacobs signature. Because the text treatment is small and far from the signature, with a lot of information in between, the Jacobs signature is used.

Signature Space Guidelines
Horizontal Configuration
When a signature incorporates a Block IU with an X value of 5/8 inch or larger, a clear area of 1X must surround the signature.
Non-signature elements such as type or images (excluding a background treatment) may not encroach on the clear area.
Taken from the Indiana University Integrated Image Program.

Vertical Configuration
When a signature incorporates a Block IU with an X value of 5/8 inch or larger, a clear area of 1X must surround the signature.
Non-signature elements such as type or images (excluding a background treatment) may not encroach on the clear area.
Taken from the Indiana University Integrated Image Program.

Limitations of Use
To maintain consistency and legibility in all applications, it is important that there are no alterations to any portion of the signature. Ensuring the proper use and placement f the signature and the text treatment maintains their power as recognizable symbols.
Never change the Jacobs School signatures or text treatment element's size and distance relationships in any way.

Never change the colors of Jacobs School signatures in any way.

Never change proportions of the signature or text treatment in any way.

Never add effects to the signature: motion blurs, outlines, bevels, patterns, etc.

Never enclose or crop the signature in a shape close to or up to the edges of the signature.

Never place the signature on a highly patterned background.

Never repeat or use the signature itself to create a border or pattern.
