William and Gayle Cook Music Library

Reserves  Materials for required or supplementary reading or listening may be put on reserve for your classes. The library distributes requests for reserves at the end of each semester (Spring semester--December 1; Summer II—May 15; Fall--July 15). It is important that you observe these dates in order to ensure availability of materials on the first day of classes. If the library does not have a copy of materials you wish to have on reserve, it will endeavor to purchase one if available. Alternatively, you may put your own copies of books or other materials on your personal reserve in the library; circulation of personal materials is within the library only. Reserve audio materials owned by the Music Library will be added to the variations online listening system. Further information may be found on the library's Web site:

Questions about reserves may be directed by e-mail to: musiclib_reserves AT indiana DOT edu or by calling the reserve coordinator at 855-8541. Another option is the “e-reserves” in the Music Library. Check with the library staff about putting articles and portions of books online for students to access.

Purchase requests for any music books, scores, and recordings not currently owned by the library may be directed to the director of the music library (Philip Ponella, pponella AT indiana DOT edu)There is also a form available on the library’s Web site at www.music.indiana.edu/order/, which you may complete and submit electronically.

Reference service is available at the Reference or Circulation desks during all open hours. The head of reference services, David Lasocki, and his staff can assist you in finding your way around the library, and in using the online catalog and reference databases. Upon request, Dr. Lasocki (e-mail: lasocki AT indiana DOT edu)is available to provide library instruction (i.e., music bibliographic instruction or instruction in music information literacy) for your classes as well as to give tours of the facilities. Please note that the Music Library does not have the resources to retrieve items from the open shelves for users or compile individualized bibliographies for them.
