Recital Set-Up Assistance Work-study students are assigned to provide set-up and lighting help for officially-scheduled events in Recital, Auer, and Ford-Crawford Halls. Andrew Stoute (855-9862) is the manager of recital halls and can be contacted for information. The recital halls are scheduled through Stephanie Gott (855-6000, recsched AT indiana DOT edu)in the Music Practice Building; please see the recital scheduling Web page at www.music.indiana.edu/admin/recsched/ Instrument Rental A limited number of instruments are maintained by the school for the use of students in techniques classes, for doubling in ensembles, and for other appropriate purposes. Full details of instrument rental procedures may be obtained from the instrument rental office, ma410. Audio and Video Recording Videotaping and playback equipment for use in the mu and ma buildings is available via e-mail request to the Music Facilities Office (m031, somfac AT indiana DOT edu)and should be reserved and signed out in that office. If equipment is not available, Classroom Technology Services – Portable Technology Support (855-8765; www.indiana.edu/~cts/) can provide audio and video equipment as well as an operator if needed. Studio Accompanists The need for piano accompanists is met by a variety of mechanisms within the Jacobs School of Music. Many pianists substitute X002 (Piano Accompanying) for large ensemble, accepting an obligation into two studios for 1 hour per week each with an hour rehearsal time for each studio hour. Master's-level pianists are required to register for F500(Accompanying Recital), a collaborative piano recital requirement. Both means of assigning pianists to faculty studios are coordinated by designated faculty. Clearly, not all needs can be appropriately met in this way. Other solutions involve collegial or professional arrangements between students. Many students would rather pay for an accompanist whose quality is known, rather than risk undertaking a performance with someone who is merely assigned to them. It is the responsibility and right of the studio teacher to grade those students who are enrolled through X002 or F500, in accordance with the grading guidelines of the courses. Tickets for Jacobs School of Music Events Each faculty member in the Jacobs School of Music is entitled to two scrip cards for the IU Opera/Ballet Theater season and for most other Jacobs School of Music events for which tickets are required. A nominal fee is assessed for each ticket. Scrip cards can be arranged through Howard Swyers in the Music Business Office, 856-1550.
