Carillon
The bells for the School of Music Carillon, sometimes called the practice carillon, are located on the roof of the Music Addition. The console, located directly below the bells in a small room on the fifth floor, contains large levers played by the hands and feet. The levers are arranged in the same fashion as a piano keyboard, although the console is a great deal larger. These levers actuate clappers that allow the bells to sound. This instrument is one of two carillons donated to the School of Music by the Arthur R. Metz Foundation in 1971. The larger carillon, located on the northeast side of campus, is known as the Metz Carillon. Both instruments were built by Royal Eijsbouts Bellfoundry of Asten, The Netherlands.
