2005-2006 Scholarship Recipients

 

Ninety students have received Friends of Music scholarships this fall. Additional Friends of Music scholarships will be awarded later in the year for the Summer Music Festival. The scholarship recipients come from as far away as South Korea and Romania and as close as Bloomington.

Those talented young musicians and dancers receiving Friends of Music scholarships for 2005-2006 are:

Lucio Amanti, cello/jazz, is a fourth-year student from Italy who studies with David Baker. Lucio is the recipient of a Friends of Music General Scholarship.

Nicolle Atkinson , viola, received both the Marjorie Gravit GuarantorScholarship and a Friends of Music General Scholarship. She is a sophomore from Sandy, UT, studying with Alan de Veritch.

A junior from Buffalo, NY, Colin Bailey, double bass, received a Douglas and Virginia Jewell/David B. Mills Scholarship. He studies with Bruce Bransby.

Sophomore Samantha Baker, clarinet, received a Douglas and Virginia Jewell/Alice V. JewellScholarship and a Friends of Music General Scholarship. She is from Olympia, WA, and studies with Howard Klug.

Ansyn Banks, from Columbus, OH, is a doctoral student studying brass pedagogy and trumpet with Joseph Tartell. Ansyn received the Donna and Jean Creek and Ross S. Jennings Guarantor Scholarship.

Danielle Baratiak, from Santa Barbara, CA,is a masters student in piano, studying with Yael Weiss. She received a Kenda Webb Memorial Scholarship and a Friends of Music General Scholarship.

Richard Barrett has received a Louise and Leonard Newman Scholarship in memory of Rose andJake Shainberg and Goldie and David Newman. He is studying voice with Dale Moore and is a senior from Seattle.

Jasmine Beams is a sophomore studying viola with Alan de Veritch. From Reading, CA, she received the Joan Scully Carmack Memorial Guarantor Scholarship sponsored by Marvin Carmack and a Friends ofMusic General Scholarship.

Freshman Lana Bode, from Hamilton, VA,is studying piano with Jennifer Streeter. She has receivedthe Louise and Leonard Newman Scholarship in memory of Rose andJake Shainberg and Goldie and David Newman and a Friends of Music General Scholarship.

Christopher Bolduc, voice, is a second-year graduate student from Albany, NY, who studies with Timothy Noble. He received a Friends of Music General Scholarship.

Clarinetist Trisha Burrell, from Lubbock, TX, has received a Donna and Jean Creek and Ross S. Jennings Guarantor Scholarship and a Friends of Music General Scholarship. She studies for a master’s degree with Howard Klug.

Azusa Chapman, violin, has received a Friends of Music General Scholarship. She is a freshman from Goshen, IN, who is studying with Mimi Zweig.

Ballet student Ava Chatterson , a freshman from Flint, MI,is the recipient of a Friends of Music General Scholarship.

Yoo-Jin Cho, violin, has received a Dagmar K. Riley Scholarship and a Friends of Music General Scholarship. Yoo-Jin is a sophomore from South Korea, studying with Mimi Zweig.

Clarinetist Lauren Cook, from Lincoln, NE,has received the Joan Scully Carmack Memorial Guarantor Scholarship sponsored by Marvin Carmack. She is a freshman studying with Howard Klug.

Mandy Dennis is a senior from Evanston, IL, studying cello with Helga Winold. She received a Ruth E. Thompson Scholarship.

Lauren DeRoller, violin, is a junior from Nova Scotia, Canada, studying with Mimi Zweig. She received a Friends of Music General Scholarship.

Eric Dickson, trumpet, received the Smithville Telephone Company Guarantor Scholarship in memory of Patricia Earles. From Rapid City, SD, he is beginning his doctoral program and studies with John Rommel.

Senior David Doyle, trombone, is from Philadelphia and studies with M. Dee Stewart. He received the Jo Ellen and Stephen Ham Guarantor Scholarship in memory of Jeanne Hardy Forkner.

Carl Engelke, trumpet, is a senior from Ann Arbor, MI, studying with John Rommel. He received a Friends of Music General Scholarship.

Anna Epp, oboe, is a master’s student studying with Linda Strommen. From Salem, OR, she has received a John S. Mason Guarantor Scholarship.

Lauren Fadeley is a ballet student who has received a Friends of Music General Scholarship. Lauren is a junior from Orlando, FL.

Violinist Jordan Fletcher has received a Ruth E. Thompson Scholarship. He is a freshman studying with Henryk Kowalski.

Sara Flores, from Crown Point, IN,has received a Robert Barker and Pat Fell-Barker Guarantor Scholarship. She is a graduate student in voice studying with Patricia Havranek.

Cody Fosdick, voice, has received a Friends of Music General Scholarship. Cody, a graduate student pursing a performer’s diploma, is from Spring, TX, and studies with Brian Horne.

Adam Franklin, a student in the performer’s diploma program, studies double bass with Lawrence Hurst. Adam is from Buffalo, NY, and received a Friends of Music General Scholarship.

Jessica French, organ, is a senior from Salt Lake City who studies with Larry Smith. She was awarded a Harold R. Janitz Guarantor Scholarship.

From Germany, Teresa Fritsche, violin, is working on a performer’s diploma with Miriam Fried. She received the John and Beth DrewesGuarantor Scholarship and a Friends of Music GeneralScholarship.

Benjamin Gelfand, voice, received a Friends of Music General Scholarship. He is a master’s student from Northbrook, IL, studying with Giorgio Tozzi.

Senior Marc Gelfo, horn, is from Vero Beach, FL, and studies with Myron Bloom. He was awarded a Joan Scully Carmack Memorial Guarantor Scholarship sponsored by Marvin Carmack.

Sarah Gibson, composition/piano, received a Robert A. Edwards Scholarship. She is a sophomore from Alpharetta, GA, studying with Jean-Louis Haguenauer and Sven-David Sandstrom.

Corey Glenton, flute, is a freshman from Mishawaka, IN, studying with Elizabeth Buck. He has received a Meadowood Retirement Community Guarantor Scholarship.

Korey Gonzales, who was born in Lafayette, IN, and went to highschool in Southington, CT,is a freshman studying voice with Marietta Simpson. Korey hasreceived a Patricia Earles Scholarship and a Friends of Music General Scholarship.

Freshman Jocelyn Goodmon, voice, studies with Paul Kiesgen. She is a recipient of a Friends of Music General Scholarship. Jocelyn is from Bloomington.

Senior Alexandra Gorlin-Crenshaw studies piano with Jean-Louis Haguenauer. She is from Amherst, MA, and received a Friends of MusicGeneral Scholarship.

Jordana Greenberg, violin, received a Joan Scully Carmack Memorial Guarantor Scholarship sponsored by Marvin Carmack. She is a senior from Paoli, IN, who studies with Miriam Fried.

Violinist Mallory Hamm is a freshman from Savannah, GA, who studies with Mimi Zweig. Mallory is a recipient of the Darlene and Rajih Haddawi and Kathryn and Scott C. Schurz Guarantor Scholarship and a Friends of Music General Scholarship.

Nicolas Homenda is a master’s student in clarinet, studying with Eli Eban. He is from Ocoee, FL, and has been awarded a Ruth E. Thompson Scholarship.

Timothy Huizenga, a junior horn performance major from Lansing, IL, studies with Myron Bloom. He received a Ruth E. Thompson Scholarship.

Jennifer Jackson studies viola with Alan de Veritch. She is a junior from Salt Lake City who received a Ruth E. Thompson Scholarship.

Freshman Jonathan Jackson, who is from Newark, DE, studies piano with Karen Shaw. He has received a Friends of Music General Scholarship.

Ben Jensen, double bass, is a senior from Columbus, OH, studying with Bruce Bransby. He received a Herman B Wells Scholarship and a Friends of Music General Scholarship.

Victoria Joseph, violin, has received a Friends of Music General Scholarship. She is a sophomore from Port-au-Prince, Haiti, studying with Miriam Fried.

Ei Hoon Joung, voice, is a doctoral student, studying with Giorgio Tozzi. Ei Hoon is from Bloomington and has received a Ruth E. Thompson Scholarship.

Pianist Min-Sun Kim, who is from South Korea, is studying for a performer’s certificate with Jean-Louis Haguenauer. Min-Sun has received a Friends of Music General Scholarship.

Harpist Ah-Rim Kim is a second-year graduate student from South Korea who studies with Susann McDonald. Ah-Rim received a Friends of Music General Scholarship.

Pearl Kim, violin, is a sophomore from Madison, WI, studying with Paul Biss. She is the recipient of a Friends of Music General Scholarship.

Yang-Yoon Kim, viola, has received a Darlene and Rajih Haddawi and Kathryn and Scott C. Schurz Guarantor Scholarship. Yang-Yoon, who is from Seoul, South Korea, is a doctoral student studying with Atar Arad.

Devin Kline is a ballet student who has received a Friends ofMusic General Scholarship. He is a freshman from Kent, OH.

Leah Kovach, a senior from Salt Lake City, is studying viola with Yuval Gotlibovich. She has received a Patricia Earles Scholarship and a Friends of Music General Scholarship.

Stephanie Lane , violin, is a freshman from Atlanta studying with Henryk Pawel Kowalski. She has received the Harold R. Janitz Guarantor Scholarship and a Friends of Music General Scholarship.

Rawon Lee was born in South Korea but has lived in England for seven years. A sophomore piano major who studies with Jean-Louis Haguenauer, Rawon received a Friends ofMusic General Scholarship.

Jesse Malgiere is a freshman voice major studying with Timothy Noble. He has received a Friends of Music General Scholarship. He is from Rochester, NY.

Steven Mann, piano, is the recipient of a Kenda Webb Memorial Scholarship. He is a senior from Orange County, CA, who studies with Menahem Pressler.

Chris Mechell, piano/music ed, is a sophomore from Winona, MN, who studies with Edward Auer. He received a Friends of Music General Scholarship.

Dmitriy Melkumov, violin, is a sophomore from Miami who studies with Henryk Kowalski. He received a Friends of Music General Scholarship.

Eduardo Mendoza, who is from Mexico, is a master’s student studying guitar with Ernesto Bitetti. He has received the new Scott C. and Kathryn Schurz Latin American Scholarship.

Christopher Moreau, a junior, studies clarinet with Howard Klug. He is from Charlotte, NC, and received a Friends of Music General Scholarship.

Kevin Murphy, voice, is studying for his performer’s diploma with Constance Cuccaro. From Malverne, NY, Kevin has been awarded the Ann Shilling Harrison and Wade C. “Rusty” Harrison II Guarantor Scholarship.

Chauson Nailor, voice, is a doctoral student in voice performance who studies with Andreas Poulimenos. He is from Bay City, TX, and has received a T.I.S.-Tichenor Foundation Guarantor Scholarship.

Freshman Emilee Newell, viola,is studying with Alan de Veritch. Emilee, from St. Louis, has received a Robert Barker and Pat Fell-Barker Guarantor Scholarship.

Ben Ordaz, tuba, is a senior from Orland Park, IL, who studies with Daniel Perantoni. He received a Friends of Music General Scholarship.

Florin Ormenisan, from Romania,is studying for a certificate in voice with Robert Harrison. Florin has received a Dagmar K. Riley Scholarship.

Violinist Sung (Sarah) Park is a master’s student studying with Henryk Kowalski.She is from Houston and has received a Robert A. Edwards Scholarship.

Freshman ballet student Thomas Penman, from St. Petersburg, FL, has received a Friends of Music General Scholarship.

Lindsey Pickens is a freshman from Evansville studying voice with Alice Hopper. Lindsey has received a Friends of Music General Scholarship.

Megan Radder, from Brookfield, WI,is studying for a master’s in voice with Robert Harrison. She hasreceived the Nelda Christ Kahn and Jeanette Calkins Marchant Guarantor Scholarship.

David Radzynski, violin, is a freshman studying with Mauricio Fuks. He hasreceived a Friends of Music General Scholarship.

Carrie Reading, voice, is the recipient of a Dagmar K. Riley Scholarship. From Plano, TX, she is studying for a performer’s certificate with Patricia Havranek.

Frederieke Saeijs, who is from the Netherlands, is studying for a performer’s diploma in violin with Mauricio Fuks. He received a Friends of Music GeneralScholarship.

Jessica Schachne is a ballet student who has received a Friends of Music General Scholarship. She is a freshman from Davie, FL.

A senior from Cape Girardeau, MO, Liesl Schoenberger is studying violin with Mauricio Fuks. She received the Susie J. Dewey GuarantorScholarship in memory of Robert H. Dewey.

Sophomore Robin Scott, violin, is from Indianapolis and studies with Miriam Fried. He received the Karl O’Lessker Scholarship and a Friends of Music General Scholarship.

Jenny Searles, voice, received the Thomas J. Beddow and Joseph W. NordlohMemorial Scholarship. She is from Zionsville, IN, and is pursuing a performer’s diploma with Patricia Stiles.

Pamela Sommer, a senior who studies piano with Luba Edlina-Dubinsky, is from Colorado Springs, CO. She received a Kenda Webb Memorial Scholarship.

Senior Justin Sorrell, piano, is from Burlington, VT, and is studying with Shigeo Neriki. He received a Friends of Music General Scholarship.

Alexander Sprung, a sophomore from Germany, is studying violin with Miriam Fried. He has received an Alan Bell Scholarship.

Peter Stoll, cello, is from Hungary and is a performer’s diploma student, studying with Janos Starker. He received a Friends of Music General Scholarship.

Megan Stout, harp, is a master’s student from Collingswood, NJ, studying with Susann McDonald. She received a Kenda Webb Memorial Scholarship.

Ayse Taspinar, piano, is from Turkey and is studying for an artist’s diploma with Arnaldo Cohen. She received a Kenda Webb Memorial Scholarship.

Senior Jamila Tekalli, piano, is from Orlando, FL, and studies with Arnaldo Cohen. She received a Meadowood Retirement Community Guarantor Scholarship.

Ashley Thursby is a ballet student who has received a Friends of Music General Scholarship. Ashley is a freshman from Richmond, MO.

From Helsinki, Finland, Lea Tuuri, violin, is studying with Miriam Fried. A sophomore, she has received a Friends of Music General Scholarship.

From Riverdale, GA, Michael Westberry, bassoon, is a sophomore studying with Arthur Weisberg. He is the recipient of a Ruth E. Thompson Scholarship.

Camille White, oboe, has received a Herman B Wells Scholarship. She is a sophomore from Amherst, MA, studying with Linda Strommen.

James Woomert, viola, has received a Friends of Music GeneralScholarship. He is a sophomore from Toronto, studying with Yuval Gotlibovich.

Ballet student Mary Wroth has received a Friends of Music General Scholarship. Mary is a freshman from Poolesville, MD.

Miho Yamagishi, viola, is studying for a performer’s diploma withAlan de Veritch. Miho has received the Cesare Mario Cristini Scholarship and a Friends of Music General Scholarship. Miho is from Narita City, Japan.

Violinist Mina Yoo is a performer’s diploma student studying with Miriam Fried and Stanley Ritchie. Mina has received a Kenda Webb Memorial Scholarship and a Friends of Music General Scholarship. She is from Seoul, South Korea.

Freshman Paul Young, cello, is studying with Emilio Colon. Hehas received a Robert A. Edwards Scholarship and a Friends of Music General Scholarship. He is from Indianapolis.
