Greetings from the Friends of Music President

Dear Friends,

The Friends of Music is celebrating its 45th year of serving the Indiana University School of Music.  This year’s opening Gala on September 17th, chaired by Henry Upper and co-chaired by Lorna Seward, was said by many to be the Friends of Music’s best event in memorable history.  Following the Gala, a performance by faculty members Joshua Bell and Leonard Slatkin with the school’s philharmonic orchestra certainly added to the memorable evening.  Again, thanks to the all who helped with the Gala and to Joshua, Leonard, and Dean Richards. The stunning event on September 17th is an example of the memorable occasions the Friends of Music presents for its members and guests while pursuing our mission of raising money for scholarships.

A future event to mark on your calendar is the Friends’ membership recital and reception on March 8, 2009,  Sunday afternoon.  You will be invited to attend this free event if you are a current member of the Friends of Music on March 8, 2009.  Our beloved former dean Charles Webb is master minding a delightful Bernstein concert that will be followed by a reception.   The Friends of Music will be honoring Scott Schurz and Vera O’Lessker for their outstanding service to the Friends.  We will also honor Charles Webb for his devotion to the Friends over decades.

Being a member of the Friends of Music bonds you with hundreds of other music lovers who treasure the Jacobs School of Music and who want this outstanding school to be available to talented, deserving music students.  Please join the Friends of Music today.  We need your help to continue to attract and support some of the best young musical talent in the world.

Thank you in advance for supporting the Friends’ important scholarship mission.
