KIDS COMPOSE!

2007-2008 Winners

There were more than 200 entries from 9 area schools and homeschools for Kids Compose! this year!

The IU Jacobs School of Music Composition Department selected 8 of the entries as winners. These eight melodies will be arranged by students in the IU Jacobs School of Music composition department into four compositions.  Two melodies will be combined for each of the four compositions - two for the MAC Orchestra concert for MCCSC Schools on November 14, and two for the MAC Band concert for MCCSC Schools  on March 5, 2008.

The names and grades of the young composers whose melodies were selected and performance dates are:

    • November 14, IU Concert Orchestra, Kevin Noe, Conductor

    Luke Crowe - Childs, 5th grader, Untitled
    Megan Coghlan -  St. Charles, 6th grader, "Yeah!"
    David Werfelman, arranger

    Nicholas May - University, 3rd grader, "The Happy Dog"
    Danielle Davila - St. Charles, 4th grader, "The Hair"
    Elliott Bark, arranger

     

    • March 5, IU Wind Ensemble/Band Concert, (Conductor, TBA)

      Korina Flater - Fairview, 5th grader, Untitled
      Melody Herzig - Marlin, 2nd grader, "Chinese Polka"
      Jeff Stanek, arranger

      Jacob Huston, Homeschool, 6th grader, Untitled
      Alexis Butcher - Summit 5th grader, "The Dark Night"
