CD RELEASE: To celebrate Valentine’s Day, the Latin American Music Center is releasing Romance: A Collection of Latin Love Songs with celebrated Grammy-award winning vocalist Sylvia McNair. Radio station WFIU will broadcast "Latin Love Songs" featuring a selection of songs from the CD with host Sylvia McNair on Monday, February 13, at 7 p.m. (EST).

The Latin American Popular Music Ensemble and El Tallerperformed music from their new CD Paisaje Urbano. The concert was scheduled for 8:00pm on November, 30th at Auer Hall, and serveed as the official release for the new CD.

The Latin American Popular Music Ensemble and El Taller performed music from their new CD Paisaje Urbano. The concert was scheduled for 8:00pm on November, 30th at Auer Hall, and serveed as the official release for the new CD.

CD RELEASE: Violinist Colin Sorgi and Jooeun Pak, winners of the FIRST LATIN AMERICAN MUSIC RECORDING COMPETITION (2011), performed at the Chicago Cultural Center on November 6th, a concert of Spanish and Latin American works for the violin, as part of a series of concerts promoting the CD release of Eco de Violín, produced by the LAMC.

The Contemporary Vocale Ensemble, conducted by Carmen Helena Téllez, director of the LAMC performed on November 6th at 12:30pm at St. John Cantius Parish in Chicago.

CULTURAL COUNTERPOINTS: Examining the Musical Interactions between the U.S. and Latin America

In Celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the Indiana University Latin American Music Center, the LAMC hosted an academic conference during Oct. 19-23, 2011, at the Jacobs School of Music of Indiana University, Bloomington. Please vist the link above for more details.

El Taller and special guests bassist Pablo Aslan, pianist Jovino Santos Neto, and IU Latin percussion Prof. Michael Spiro performed at Serendipity Martini Bar in Bloomington, Indiana on Oct. 22. 

Bernard Gordillo was awarded the Fulbright-IIE Scholarship to conduct research on Spanish Colonial Music in Nicaragua. 

Yuriria Rodriguez is a semi-finalist for the XV INTERNATIONAL VOICE COMPETITION & FESTIVAL in Trujillo, Peru.

CD Release: Colin Sorgi and Jooeun Pak: Latin American Music for Violin, Piano and Electronics was released during our 50th Anniversary Conference, on Oct. 22nd.
