Why participate on-site?

As one of our participants of this workshop, you will gain precious piano learning experience and expand your network by connecting with master pianists and promising participants. We are proud of our faculty, which includes, for example, Edward Auer and Jerome Lowenthal. You will have face-to-face communication with them in both master classes and private classes. In addition, we will hold a solo competition and a chamber competition for you to show your talents. What’s more, you will have recital opportunities and networking events. A certificate will be awarded if you complete all sessions.

Why audit on-site?

We believe that everyone should have an opportunity to learn. Though we have to limit our participants to 40, we offer unlimited seats for on-site auditors. As an on-site auditor, you will experience the same master classes at the same places as participants and communicate with renowned pianists. There are also a great deal of opportunities for you to communicate, learn and familiar with our faculty and your fellow participants and auditors. A certificate will be awarded when you complete all sessions.

Why participate or audit online?

We totally understand that travel can sometimes be expensive, and some people may have conflicts on their calendar. Joining us online not only saves your travel expenses but also allows you to enjoy the comfort and flexibility of studying at home. You will experience the same master classes, competitions and concerts live online, and enjoy the interactive live streaming via live chat. What’s more, you can replay the videos of the sessions for any times you want and at any time convenient to you after the live session. As a special bonus, online participants can have a 50-minute online private lesson!

What is an early IU audition?

As an on-site participant, you are eligible to have an early audition for Performance Diploma or Master of Music programs of the piano department of the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University. This gives you an extra opportunity to form your application decision at an early stage. If you pass the early audition, you won’t have to travel to Bloomington again later to have the winter audition. However, if you failed to play well in the early audition during the workshop in the summer, you may still come to have the audition again in the winter.

How are individual lessons arranged?

After listening to your recordings carefully, Prof. Auer and Mrs. Auer will assign professors to you, whom they believe are the best for you, according to your level, your style, and your repertoire.

Can I have a individual lesson with a specific professor whom I am interested in?

Yes, if the schedule of the professor allows. Please send an email to Mrs. Auer at theauerconcerts@gmail.com as early as possible if you are interested in a specific professor.

Can I take extra private lessons in addition to the four individual lessons arranged by the workshop?

Yes, if the schedule of the professor allows. Additional tuitions may apply. Please send an email to Mrs. Auer at theauerconcerts@gmail.com as early as possible if you wish to take extra private lessons.

Must I participate in one of the competitions?

You don’t have to if you are not ready. However, we strongly encourage you to participate in the competitions because you will gain valuable experiences.

Where are the practicing rooms? When can I practice?

There are a lot of practicing rooms in the Music Addition (MA, or the “round building”). Please feel free to practice at any of the practicing rooms as long as the door is not locked and there is no one using it. If you can’t find any practicing room at the Music Addition, you may try the Music Practice building across the East 3rd Street.

Is there Wi-Fi on campus?

Yes. Indiana University provides AT&T wireless service to visitors free of charge on all campuses. To connect, make sure your device's wireless networking (Wi-Fi) is turned on, and select the "attwifi" SSID. You may need to start your web browser to finish authenticating to AT&T.

How to watch and replay the online sessions?

We will broadcast our sessions via YouTube. As long as you have a Google account (which is the same as a Gmail account or a YouTube account) established, you will receive the links for all of the live streaming sessions in your Gmail. Simply click and open the link we have sent you to watch the live streaming on YouTube with your Google account. Several hours after the live streaming session, the video on demand will be ready with the same link, so you can replay it for as many times as you like at any time convenient for you.

YouTube is blocked in my country, can I still participate online?

Yes, you can! All of the videos will be available to you within 72 hours after every session in a special Youku account we’ve established for you, so you can still take the same masterclasses and watch the competitions and concerts promptly just as the online participants in US. You may choose to take the bonus private lesson online via QQ, if Skype doesn’t work well for you.
