Audition Information

Audition: General Applicants

There is no audition for applicants in either the choral or organ tracks.

Audition: Participants in “Rehearsal Techniques Masterclass”

Audition: Professor Huff"s “Rehearsal Techniques for the Choral Conductor,” taught by Professor Walter Huff. The course will be open to all as observers/singers. Those wishing to participate as a conductor in this course should indicate this on the application form and submit a video recorded audition (DVD or YouTube link) consisting of two contrasting choral works conducted in either a rehearsal or performance setting.

Fees
  • Non-Refundable Application Fee: $70
  • Participant Tuition: $300
  • On-Campus Housing in Willkie Residence center: $50 per night (Willkie Residence Center rooms are single suites with sharing bathrooms. Basic linens are included. Meals are NOT included.) *Please be advised that dormitory lodging, while safe, convenient and inexpensive, is very basic accomodation. Those wishing for lodging at a higher level of comfort are advised to investigate one of Bloomington's many hotel options. 

*There is no financial aid available for this workshop.

Check-In

Check-in will take place on June 4th from 8:00 - 8:30 am in front of the second floor entrance of Auer Hall in Simon Music Building. See Map.

Wailist

In the event that the course is oversubscribed, waitlisted applicants will be notified if a space becomes available; however, being on the waitlist does not guarantee a space in the program.


Refunds

Tuition will be refunded minus a $100 cancellation charge to participants if withdraw prior to 30 days from start of workshop. No refunds after May 14th. Refunds do not include non-refundable application fee.

  • The application fee of $70.00 is non-refundable and not part of tuition.
  • Only full payment will secure your position.
  • No scholarships or financial aid awards are available for this program.
  • Late applications will be accepted on the basis of available space.

Frequently Asked Questions
  • I do not hold a music degree and only have a part-time church position. Can I attend?
    The SMI is designed to inspire and instruct church musicians who come with a broad range of backgrounds so, yes, by all means.
  • Can I request a teacher?
    Applicants are able to request a teacher or teachers and, while we will try to accommodate all such requests, we cannot guarantee it.
