A staple of the Bloomington community and Southern Indiana counties for over 25 years, the mission of the Pre-College Ballet Program is to educate and train students in the art of classical ballet while fostering an appreciation of music, movement, and personal expression. Classes are structured not only to develop proper ballet technique, but also to enhance cognitive and emotional growth.

Students are trained in the best of American technique, mirroring the standards and training of the IU Ballet Department.

The Pre-College Ballet Program strives to educate and inspire the entire child while exposing them to the highest level of pre-professional training in ballet technique. In addition, the Program offers pointe, variations, body conditioning and supplemental classes to further kinesthetic awareness, body control and strength.

Classes are divided into many levels allowing each student the opportunity to receive the personal attention he/she needs for maximum development while incorporating unique ways of focused learning on themselves.  All students have the chance to experience the excitement of teamwork by dancing as an ensemble. Ballet students are encouraged to acquire self-confidence as well as a strong personal work ethic through challenging yet level-appropriate classes.

Students of the Pre-College Ballet Program further develop through learning and performing original choreography by professional choreographers as well as studying excerpts from the classical ballet repertoire.

Under the guidance of the faculty of the Program, students are encouraged to develop emotional growth and to express personal artistry.  Each student is evaluated on a continual basis.  An open line of communication is encouraged in the Pre-College Ballet Program--in an effort to further enhance the understanding and progression of each student.

Students of the Pre-College Ballet Program have the opportunity to perform in Indiana University Ballet Theater's annual production of "The Nutcracker" (ages 7-18).  All students perform in the annual Pre-College Ballet Workshop at the end of each Spring semester which is presented at the Musical Arts Center.  In addition, there are opportunities for performing at community venues as well as in other Jacobs School of Music performances.

We welcome you and your child to the Pre-College Ballet Program and look forward to working with your son or daughter for the years to follow.
