| GRADS HIT HIGH NOTE |
Congratulations to all of the 2005 School of Music graduates. You finally made it! Over 340 music students are eligible to receive degrees this year and join over 6,500 others who will receive their degrees May 7 at Assembly Hall. Approximately one third of the musical contingent will receive graduate degrees, with Voice being the most popular major for both Music graduate and undergrad students. These students will join an elite group of almost 13,000 School of Music alumni including some of the most famous and respected artists in the world. Learn more about our extended family. The School of Music is proud and pleased to have been able to help nurture such tremendous talent and wishes continued success to all grads as they embark on what we know will be extremely successful careers.

| EIGHT RENOWNED FACULTY JOIN THE SCHOOL OF MUSIC |
The IU School of Music celebrates the appointment of eight eminent artists, scholars, and teachers to its world-class faculty. On April 29, the School announced that famed violinist and conductor Jaime Laredo will assume a chaired position in the String Department and acclaimed cellist Sharon Robinson, will also join the String Department.
Today (May 6), we announce that six additional faculty will be added: mezzo-soprano Marietta Simpson to the Department of Voice, Scott Weiss to the Department of Bands, Kristina Muxfeldt and Ayana Smith to the Department of Musicology, violist Yuval Gotlibovich to the String Department, and Arthur Weisberg to the Woodwind Department.

In addition to producing the spectacular IU Summer Music Festival beginning June 17, the School of Music is proud of its Early Music Institute’s close affiliation with the Bloomington Early Music Festival (BLEMF) running May 20 to May 30. With a commitment to bringing the treasures of early music to life on stage, the 2005 festival will present staged Monteverdi madrigals, a 19 th-century Brass band, the rich folk music of Norway, medieval music by Guillaume de Machaut, an increase of the region’s finest local talent being featured in performances, children’s events, and an expansion of its educational outreach.
