SUMMER MUSIC FESTIVAL
JUNE 17-AUGUST 13

The Summer Music Festival is here! The American Chamber Players kick things off this Sunday at 4 p.m. in Auer Hall. And, by popular demand, the Beaux Arts Trio has added another concert, Friday, July 1, 8 p.m. in Auer Hall! Other showcase events include performances by the Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra, the Saint Louis Brass Quintet, and the Penderecki Quartet. Three internationally renowned conductors will direct the virtuosic Festival Orchestra. IU Opera Theater will present Gilbert and Sullivan’s finely crafted and entertaining musical H.M.S. Pinafore. Be sure to set aside three July evenings for the popular sunset band concerts on the MAC lawn!

VIOLINIST MARK KAPLAN AND PIANIST YAEL WEISS JOIN IU

Violinist Mark Kaplan, who has played with nearly every major American and European orchestra and performs regularly around the world as both a soloist and a chamber musician, will join the faculty at the Indiana University School of Music, it was announced today (June 17). He will be joined on the faculty by renowned concert pianist Yael Weiss, his wife and chamber music partner.

STUDENTS SHEEHAN AND STANEK WIN BMI AWARDS

Two Indiana University School of Music composition students, Joseph Sheehan and Jeffrey Stanek, have been named winners in the 53rd annual BMI Student Composer Awards competition. Both also received BMI awards in 2003.
