The Summer Music Festival and the Beaux Arts Trio’s much-anticipated fiftieth anniversary celebration are in full swing! The Trio made a triumphant appearance with the Festival Orchestra on June 30. Due to the very strong sold-out pre-concert sales of its July 2 concert, the Trio will repeat its historic all-Beethoven program on July 1. The program duplicates the repertoire of the Trio’s first public performance 50 years ago. With the recent passing of violinist Isidore Cohen [see article], the Trio will dedicate the July 1 and July 2 concerts to his memory.
WFIU Public Radio airs the first of two profiles on Menahem Pressler, Sunday evening at 7 p.m (Central Time). The program can be heard live through the internet by going to http://wfiu.indiana.edu.
Other showcase events to look forward to this summer include the Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra, the Saint Louis Brass Quintet, and two concerts by the virtuosic Festival Orchestra under the direction of Roberto Abbado and Leonard Slatkin.
IU Opera Theater will present Gilbert and Sullivan’s finely crafted and entertaining musical H.M.S. Pinafore. Be sure to set aside three Wednesday evenings for the popular sunset band concerts on the MAC lawn starting July 6!
For those of you who plan to attend the July 2 Beaux Arts Trio concert, don't miss the Opera Workshop performance tonight (July 1, 7 p.m.) in MA 310. Click here for details. |
