SCHOOL OF MUSIC TO PRESENT BENEFIT FOR KATRINA VICTIMS
|
The School of Music will present a benefit concert for the victims of Hurricane Katrina on Sept. 26 at 8pm in the Musical Arts Center. A Benefit for New Orleans: The Cradle of Jazz will feature the IU Jazz Ensemble under the direction of David Baker along with soprano Sylvia McNair and baritone Timothy Noble. All proceeds will go to the Red Cross.

PHILHARMONIC HERALDS THE SEASON, WITH PRESSLER CEREMONY |
David Effron will conduct the IU Philharmonic Orchestra in a free performance on Sept. 17 at 8pm in the MAC. Grammy award-winning violinist and new faculty member Jaime Laredo will be featured.
During intermission, Distinguished Professor Manahem Pressler will be presented his Commandeur in the Order of Arts and Letters award, France's highest honor, by the Consul General of France Richard Barbeyron. |
A PROJECT FOR THE MOVEABLE FEAST OF THE ARTS |
Serving as a pilot project for IU’s Moveable Feast of the Arts initiative, the IU Philharmonic will repeat its Sept. 17 performance, Sept. 18 on the IU South Bend campus.

UPCOMING EVENTS |
The plethora of events in the 2005-6 School of Music season are about to start! The much-anticipated opener takes place Sept. 17 with the IU Philharmonic Orchestra featuring Jaime Laredo. IU Opera Theater opens its season the following weekend with the Mozart favorite Cosí fan tutte. The Jazz Ensemble starts the year with a most-important concert Sept. 26, “A Benefit for New Orleans: The Cradle of Jazz” directed by David Baker and featuring soprano Sylvia McNair and baritone Timothy Noble. And Atar Arad will perform his viola concerto with the Chamber Orchestra on Sept. 12. These are just a few of the myriad of events offered at the beginning of this exceptional new season.
