IU SUMMER FESTIVAL JAZZ 'DREAM TEAM' DEBUTS JUNE 30

The IU Jacobs School of Music has assembled the crème de la crème of the Indiana jazz world, and beyond, to form a new ensemble to add to the already impressive ranks of its Summer Music Festival. The Festival Jazz Orchestra, directed by IU jazz legend David Baker, makes its debut on Friday, June 30, at 8 p.m. in the university's Musical Arts Center. "The assemblage of such top-flight jazz talent into one performance group is unprecedented since I've been here," said Baker, "and I've been here since 1949!"

Joshua BellBloomington-born IU alumnus Joshua Bell, now an international violin sensation, returns to his roots next Thursday, June 29, to perform the Vivaldi Four Seasons and the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto. Click here for his Web site.

THE 2006 IU SUMMER MUSIC FESTIVAL CONTINUES

The IU Summer Music Festival has begun! Enjoy a summer rich with showcase events including violinist Joshua Bell with the Festival Orchestra next Thursday; the debut of the IU Summer Music Festival Jazz Orchestra next Friday; the Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra; concerts by the Beaux Arts Trio tonight and tomorrow, the Penderecki Quartet, and the Sequenza Trio; world-renowned conductors Michael Stern and Leonard Slatkin; and more! IU Opera Theater will present Gilbert and Sullivan's finely crafted and exotic The Mikado beginning July 28.
