IU BALLET THEATER OPENS ITS SEASON THIS WEEKEND WITH "PERSPECTIVES 1900s"

MACIndiana University Ballet Theater begins its exciting new season on Oct. 5 (Friday) at 8 p.m. with a varied selection of vignettes, all rooted in one of the most inventive artistic periods in the history of dance. Enjoy how extraordinary choreography, dancing, sets, and costumes come together in such works as Nijinsky's L'Après Midi d'un Faune. All performances are accompanied live by instrumentalists from the Jacobs School of Music.

JACOBS SCHOOL TO PRESENT TRIO OF CONCERTS IN NEW ALBANY, ADVANCING MOVEABLE FEAST

Slatkin and McNairThe IU Jacobs School of Music continues the university's Moveable Feast of the Arts Series with three performances at the Ogle Center on the campus of IU Southeast in New Albany, Ind.. The first, by the virtuosic IU Wind Ensemble, conducted by Band Department Chair Stephen W. Pratt, takes place this Saturday, October 6 at 7:30 p.m. The IU Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Uriel Segal, will perform on November 9, and the IU Jazz Ensemble, directed by David Baker, will present their performance on February 16.

COLLEGIATE PREMIÈRE OF GOLIJOV'S "AINADAMAR", IN CONCERT

Rothlisberger set for Rigoletto The Jacobs School's Latin American Music Center (LAMC), in cooperation with the Contemporary Vocal Ensemble and the Chamber Orchestra, will present the collegiate première performance, in concert, of the chamber opera Ainadamar or Fountain of Tears by Argentinean composer Osvaldo Golijov. The event will take place on Oct. 11 at 8 p.m. in Auer Hall, with a repeat performance on Oct. 12 at 8 p.m.

The many events on offer during the next two weeks include a faculty chamber concert this Sunday (Oct 7) at 4pm with Jaime Laredo, Sharon Robinson and others; the Georgina Joshi Pianos Dedication Concert with Menahem Pressler and friends (Oct 10); the Baroque Orchestra, with Stanley Ritchie conductor (Oct 14); a faculty piano recital by Edmund Battersby (Oct 17); and the Philharmonic Orchestra, with David Effron and André Watts, on October 18.
