| TOWNSEND PLANT APPOINTED DIRECTOR OF ADMISSIONS AND FINANCIAL AID |
The Jacobs School of Music welcomes Townsend Plant as its new director of admissions and financial aid, beginning June 1, 2008. He has served in the same capacity for the School of Music at Ithaca College, Ithaca, NY, since 2001. An accomplished classical guitarist, Plant is a founding member of the Classical Guitar Society of Upstate New York and founding director of the D'Addario classical Guitar Competition at Ithaca College. >>Click here for more. |
| THREE JACOBS SCHOOL ALUMNI MAKE CARNEGIE HALL DEBUT |
When the New York Youth Symphony opens its 45th anniversary season at Carnegie Hall on Dec. 9 at 2 p.m., it will unintentionally host a Hoosier theme. Three of the major contributors to the performance—the conductor, Ryan McAdams; solo violinist, William Harvey; and composer, Clint Needham—are Indiana University graduates making their Carnegie Hall debuts. >>Click here for more.

Distinguished Professor Emeritus Harvey Phillips, tuba virtuoso, has added another honor to one of the most remarkable careers in modern American musical history. He has become the first brass player chosen for induction into the American Classical Music Hall of Fame. >>Click here for more.

Don’t miss the last Jacobs event of fall semester! Brent Gault directs the IU Children's Choir Winter Concert this Sunday at 3:30pm at Bloomington’s First United Methodist Church. We then take a long winter’s nap and return on Jan. 11 for a Trombone Faculty Recital followed by violinist Alexander Kerr in Faculty Recital on Jan. 13. Other highlights of spring semester include the collegiate premiere of William Bolcom’s opera A Wedding in February, violinist Joshua Bell and pianist Jeremy Denk in recital together on Feb. 10, and the spring ballet A Night at the Opera (at the Ballet) in March. In the mean time, the IU Jacobs School of Music wishes you and yours the very best of the holiday season.
