THE JACOBS SCHOOL OF MUSIC WALKS AWAY WITH SIX GRAMMY AWARDS

SlatkinFaculty and alumni from the Jacobs School of Music were recently awarded a total of six Grammy Awards. Legendary conductor and IU faculty member Leonard Slatkin received three awards, prolific jazz saxophonist and alumnus Michael Brecker was recognized posthumously, and acclaimed jazz artist and alumnus John Clayton won an award. >>Click here for more.

JACOBS SCHOOL OFFERS MORE THAN 50 EVENTS DURING ARTSWEEK 2008
SlatkinThe Jacobs School of Music celebrates ArtsWeek 2008 (Feb. 20 to March 1) with a rich variety of events that range from contemporary workshop readings to a musical examination of the meaning of life and death to Mozart's celebrated opera Le Nozze di Figaro. JACOBS SCHOOL PRESENTS VERDI'S 'REQUIEM' IN BLOOMINGTON AND INDIANAPOLIS

GreyThe Indiana University Philharmonic Orchestra and Oratorio Chorus, conducted by William Jon Gray, will offer two free performances of Verdi's masterwork, Requiem, in Bloomington (Feb. 27 at 8 p.m.) and Indianapolis (March 1 at 8 p.m.). >>Click here for more.

JACOBS SCHOOL COMPOSER RECEIVES TWO PRESTIGIOUS HONORS

HassJeffrey Hass, director of the Indiana University Center for Electronic and Computer Music and professor of composition, received two significant professional honors during the past several weeks. Hass, an IU faculty member since 1987, was named as one of the first four fellows of the newly-created IU Institute for Digital Arts and Humanities.>>Click here for more.

A CELEBRATION IN HONOR OF IU'S THOMAS BALDNER

Orion QuartetThis week celebrates ArtsWeek in Bloomington with performances by the Orion Quartet (with Jaime Laredo and Sharon Robinson,) a multi-media performance by Concentus in the IU Art Museum, a premiere by composer Don Freund, a performance by violin virtuoso Gilles Apap, the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra with JSoM alumni Anthony Kniffen and Ju-Fang Liu (see info to your right), Baroque Orchestra with Stanley Ritchie, as well as guest recitals, lectures, new music and early music ensembles.>>Click here for more.
