2008 BIG BAND EXTRAVAGANZA AT IU FEATURES DELORES KING WILLIAMS AND EVERETT GREENE

Delores King WilliamsEverett GreeneThe Jacobs School of Music will host its annual Big Band Extravaganza, featuring IU jazzmen David N. Baker and Pat Harbison, this Saturday, April 19, at 8 p.m. in the Musical Arts Center. The Big Band Extravaganza merges two outstanding jazz ensembles of student performers trained by Baker and Harbison. This year's concert, "It Don't Mean a Thing . . . If It Ain't Got That Swing," will present masterpieces of the swing era and guest performances by vocalists Delores King Williams and Everett Greene. >>Click here for more.

IU JACOBS SCHOOL OF MUSIC APPOINTS NEW ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR OF BAND DEPARTMENT

GershmanThe IU Jacobs School of Music announced April 10 that Jeffrey Gershman has been named Associate Professor of Music and Associate Director of Bands/Wind Conducting. He will join the Jacobs School faculty at the beginning of the fall semester.

J. PETER BURKHOLDER RECEIVES 2007-08 MULTICULTURAL UNDERSTANDING AWARD

BurkholderThe Indiana University Commission on Multicultural Understanding (COMU) honored five individuals and one program April 17 at the Neal-Marshall Black Culture Center with its 2007-08 COMU Awards. Distinguished Professor of Music J. Peter Burkholder received the Faculty Member award. >>Click here for more.

SUMMER MUSIC FESTIVAL SCHEDULE ANNOUNCED SOON!

Beaux Arts TrioStay tuned as the much-anticipated line-up for the 2008 IU Summer Music Festival will be announced next week. This year’s festival, taking place from June 15 - August 9, will include the final Bloomington performance by the Beaux Arts Trio during its farewell tour, an attractive production by IU Opera Theater, major national ensembles, conductors, and soloists, the Festival Orchestra and Festival Jazz Orchestra, outdoor band concerts, and many great chamber music and solo recitals!>>Click here for more.

Opera Workshop There are still plenty of events to catch at the end of this prolific semester. The IU Children’s Choir presents “A Celebration in Honor of Ruth Boshkoff” Saturday afternoon at 2pm, with the innovative Opera Workshop at 3pm. Don’t miss the favorite Big Band Extravaganza as it presents “It Don’t Mean a Thing (If It Ain’t Got That Swing)” at 8pm that night. Enjoy the International Vocal Ensemble Sunday afternoon before the Symphonic Choir performs later in the evening. The Orion String Quartet presents its last concert of the season on Monday night, while April 27 offers the final Computer and Video Recital of the year.
