JOSHUA BELL AND LEONARD SLATKIN OPEN THE NEW SEASON

Bell and SlatkinWith four new Indiana University Opera and Ballet Theater productions, in addition to the usual hundreds of other performances, the Jacobs School offers another ambitious season in 2008-09. Two internationally distinguished Jacobs faculty talents join forces to kick off the orchestral series on Sept. 17 as Leonard Slatkin conducts the IU Philharmonic Orchestra and violinist Joshua Bell at 8 p.m. in the IU Auditorium.  >> Click here for more.

JACOBS SCHOOL ANNOUNCES ARCHITECTS FOR NEW $44,000,000 BUILDING
Two Architects

The Trustees of Indiana University have selected award-winning Browning Day Mullins Dierdorf (BDMD) Architects of Indianapolis and Flad Architects of Madison, Wis., for the Jacobs School of Music’s new North Studio Building. The building is funded by a $44,000,000 gift from the Lilly Endowment. >>Click here for more.

IU OPERA THEATER CELEBRATES ITS 60TH ANNIVERSARY WITH PRODUCTIONS OLD AND NEW
IU Opera 2008-09 Season

Familiar favorites combine with forays into fantasy in the 60th Indiana University Opera and Ballet Theater season. The 2008-2009 lineup includes beloved standards like Verdi's La Traviata, Giulio Cesare by Handel and The Nutcracker ballet, in addition to fairy-tale fun in Prokofiev's Love for Three Oranges and Massenet's Le Cendrillon, the Cinderella story interpreted in the French operatic style. >> Click here for more.

EVENTS INFORMATION

The Red ViolinThe countdown to another outstanding year of performances from the Jacobs School of Music has begun! The orchestral season starts on a high note when Leonard Slatkin conducts the IU Philharmonic Orchestra and violinist Joshua Bell on Sept. 17 at the IU Auditorium in a program that will include John Corigliano's The Red Violin Concerto.  A free screening of the movie that inspired this work, The Red Violin, will be offered Sept. 14 at 7 p.m. at the Buskirk-Chumley Theater. And get your tickets now for the curtain-raiser of the IU Opera Theater season, Verdi’s immensely popular La Traviata, September 26, 27, and Oct. 3 and 4. David NevilleCongratulations to Olympian runner David Neville (BME '07) who won Bronze in the 400-meter final at the Beijing 2008 Summer Olympics. Neville also won the gold medal, a new Olympic record, in the mens 1,600-meter relay.
