Constance Cook Glen gave a paper titled “Empowering the Gifted Listener: Taking up Copland’s Challenge Once Again” at the recent CMS National Conference in Atlanta, GA. She also presented a poster called "For Whom is Opera Relevant? Exploring Expressions of Passion." In addition, Glen was awarded an ArtsWeek grant for a lecture/performance on the musical, which will take place Feb. 21, 2009, at 3 p.m. in Auer Hall. Several participants will perform, including Janice Hauxwell-Hammond, Meredith Kiesgen, and Eric Anderson. The title is "American Politics through the Musical Looking Glass."
Two-time Grammy Award-winner Sylvia McNair will appear Nov. 5 at 7 p.m. on Mickey’s Corner, the Jewish Community Center’s (JCC) popular talk show hosted by Indianapolis business leader Mickey Maurer. In a casual format much like Bravo TV’s Inside the Actor’s Studio, Maurer and McNair will converse about her spectacular career, her struggle with breast cancer, and some little-known facts about the singer. The soprano-turned-jazz singer will also perform for the audience. The Arthur M. Glick JCC is in Indianapolis at 6701 Hoover Road. The program is free and open to the public.
