JACOBS SCHOOL SEASON INCLUDES WEALTH OF DIVERSITY

Continuing its tradition of nurturing and presenting the world's greatest musicians, the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music offers four new IU Opera and Ballet Theater productions during its 2009-10 season, in addition to a host of performances by orchestral, wind, choral and percussion ensembles, jazz combos and bands, chamber music groups, soloists and many others. >>Click here for more.

 

THE 2009-10 JACOBS SCHOLARS AND JACOBS FELLOWS

Jacobs ScholarsEight new Jacobs Scholars and eight new Jacobs Fellows begin their studies this fall at the Jacobs School of Music. IU OPERA SERIES BEGINS WITH L'ITALIANA IN ALGERI

L'Italiana in AlgeriIU Opera and Ballet Theater launches its full 2009-10 season of six operas and three ballet productions with Rossini's L'Italiana in Algeri, which opens on Sept. 25. The diverse season includes new productions of Mozart's Die Zauberflöte (The Magic Flute) and Puccini's La Rondine (The Swallow), Bernstein's dynamic West Side Story, a tribute to the 100th anniversary of Sergei Diaghilev's Ballet Russes and more. >>Click here for more.

STUDENT COMPOSER AWARD FROM BMI FOUNDATION

Brendan Kelley Faegre Brendan Kelley Faegre has been named one of the year's BMI Student Composer Award recipients. Faegre is one of just nine young classical composers to receive the honor, which includes scholarship money, this year. >>Click here for more.

Organ HandsWelcome to another exciting year of unprecedented musical offerings. If you've wondered what an organ recital is like, this weekend is your chance to check it out at "Bach and Beyond: A Marathon Organ Recital" presented by the Jacobs Organ Department in conjunction with Bloomington's Fourth Street Festival, at Trinity Episcopal Church. Pianist Emile Naoumoff and violinist Kevork Mardirossian present the first Faculty Recital of the season on Sept. 6, and a number of faculty members will participate in the Voice Faculty Cabaret on Sept. 13.
