Charming, delightful, and hilarious, Rossini’s take on the play by Beaumarchais is a fast-moving masterwork that established some of the most memorable melodies and funniest scenes in opera. It also features the famous and beloved character Figaro, who is The Barber of Seville. His cleverness, wit, and restrained insolence not only make him the man to turn to when a love-struck nobleman tries to woo the heroine, but also present a subtle undercurrent of condemnation of the prevailing social system. Deceptions and razor-sharp maneuvers by Figaro ensure that true love conquers all.
