Professor O'Hearn is head of the Scenic Design program at the IU Opera Theater. His experience as scenic and costume designer traverses most of the important opera houses around the world, including the Metropolitan Opera, Vienna Staatsoper, Vienna Volksoper, Hamburg Staatsoper, New York City Opera, Greater Miami Opera, Houston Opera, Santa Fe Opera, American Ballet Theater, New York City Ballet, San Francisco Ballet, and Ballet West.  He is a former faculty member of Studio and Forum of Stage Design in New York (1968-88) and has guest taught and lectured at the Carnegie Mellon University, Brandeis University, and Penn State University.
