Eugene Onegin
“Lyric Scenes” in Three Acts
Music by Peter Illych Tchaikovsky

Introduction

Set in Russia of the 1820's and based on an Alexander Pushkin poem of the same name, Eugene Onegin tells the story of a young country girl whose romantic ideals are shattered by a man who rejects his own emotions. Set to music by Tchaikovsky between 1877-79, the story reflects much of the sadness in the composer's own life at the time. Stage Director Yefim Maizel, conductor David Effron, and choreographer Guoping Wang bring this Russian favorite to life at the MAC stage October 22, 23, 29 and 30.
