2008 IU Summer Music Festival

Featuring more than 40 free and ticketed events performed by guests, faculty and students from the IU Jacobs School of Music, the 2008 IU Summer Music Festival (June 15-Aug. 9) offers an extraordinary array of orchestral concerts, opera, chamber music, jazz evenings, recitals and outdoor band concerts.

Included is a performance by the Beaux Arts Trio on their farewell tour; vocal ensembles Sweet Honey in the Rock ® and Chanticleer; Canadian Brass; Maureen McGovern; the Festival Orchestra conducted by Lawrence Renes, Xian Zhang, and Robert Spano; the return of the acclaimed Festival Jazz Orchestra; Kalichstein-Laredo-Robinson Trio; Penderecki Quartet; Weiss-Kaplan-Newman Trio, Biava Quartet, and more!

Enjoy IU Opera Theater’s world-class production of Jerry Bock’s romantic comedy She Loves Me, and be sure to set aside three July evenings for the popular sunset band concerts on the MAC lawn.

Sweet Honey will kick off the IU Summer Music Festival
The Grammy Award-winning a cappella ensemble Sweet Honey In The Rock kicks off the 2008 Indiana University Summer Music Festival with its African American vocal repertoire and performance style on June 15 at 8 p.m. in the Musical Arts Center (MAC). Full Story

Classical music radio and TV host Fred Child to broadcast live from IU Bloomington
WFIU, WTIU, and the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music are bringing classical music radio and TV host Fred Child to Bloomington, June 17-19, to help kick off IU's Summer Music Festival. Child is the host of American Public Media's Performance Today, the most-listened-to classical music radio show in America, with more than 1.2 million weekly listeners on 237 stations around the country. IU Summer Series showcases the talents of Jacobs faculty
The Indiana University Summer Music Festival's Chamber Music Series offers an extraordinary array of national and international musicians highlighting IU Jacobs School of Music faculty. This year's series, which begins June 16, will feature a number of performances by eminent faculty members, such as violinist Jaime Laredo and cellist Sharon Robinson in the Kalichstein-Laredo-Robinson Trio.
