Overview of Graduate Programs at the Jacobs School of Music
Prerequisite
-
Master's degree in Choral Conducting or its demonstrated equivalence, including previous experience as a conductor
-
Knowledge of French, German and Italian grammar and diction equivalent to the Bachelor's degree requirement of one semester in each (students with less than one semester with a grade of C or better in each of these languages must pass proficiency tests or the prescribed language courses)

Regardless of previous training, each student must pass a diction proficiency examination in each language. (Language requirements must be met prior to the scheduling of the qualifying examination)
Admission

The application for admission with graduate standing must be accompanied by printed programs and tape recordings of choral programs for examination by the admissions committee.

2 Minors |
All students pursuing a Doctor of Music in Choral Conducting degree are required to declare two minor fields . Each minor consists of at least 12 credit hours. The Minor can be pre-established by a department as a Doctoral Minor Field, or designed by the student in dialogue with graduate advisor as a Individualized Minor or as Guided Electives Minor.
Courses counting toward the minor must have an average of B or better. Departments offering a pre-established minor have the right to require a higher grade for their minor fields.
To declare your minors, students must complete a Doctoral Minor Field or Guided Electives Form, have it signed by the appropriate department chair or faculty member, and submit it to the Graduate Office. |
